Following the success of the previous workshops on Patent and Scientific Literature Translation, we are organizing the 9th Workshop on Patent and Scientific Literature Translation (PSLT 2021) held in conjunction with MT Summit 2021.
Due to continuing COVID restrictions on travel, we have decided to hold PSLT 2021 online on 16 August, 2021.
Machine translation of patent information and different types of scientific literature is in high demand, while there still remain open problems to make the machine translation results more sophisticated. The workshop covers a wide range of topics related to the unique features of scientific literature including patents, scientific papers, and technical reports. The workshop, which consists of invited talks, presentation of submitted papers, and free discussion will be an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to get together and exchange their ideas and experiences.
We will have the following invited speakers at PSLT 2021:
— Satoshi Nakanishi(Japan Patent Office)
— Yvonne Tsai(National Taiwan University)
We solicit original research papers as well as survey papers and user reports. Topics of interests include but not limited to:
— Machine translation of patents and scientific literature
— Domain adaptation of MT systems
— Translation aids for patents and scientific literature
— Language resources for patent and scientific literature translation
— Evaluation techniques for patent and scientific literature translation
— Controlled languages and machine translation
— Multilingual retrieval and classification of patents and scientific literature

=== Non-archival Presentation Session
The target of this session is presentations on the papers that have been reviewed by the conferences/journals without presented in the style of oral nor poster presentations, including EMNLP Findings and ACL Findings. The paper (or extended abstract) to be submitted can be in any format, but it should be an accepted paper reviewed by conferences/journals after September, 2020. Note that the submitted paper is only used for checking the topics, and it will not be included in the proceedings of this workshop. Only the title and the authors are presented in the workshop program.
Papers must be submitted to the following website by 11:59 pm Anywhere on Earth (UTC–12), 5 July, 2021. Choose the track of "Workshop - Patent and Scientific Literature Translation" when creating new submission, and INPUT ONLY "Presentation Session" IN THE ABSTRACT TEXTBOX.

=== General Session
The format for papers is the same as for regular MT Summit 2021 style guide.
Papers should not be longer than 10 pages of content (for references, unlimited number of pages is allowed). The papers must be submitted in PDF format and adhere to one of the following style guides: PDF version, LaTeX version, MS Word version. To allow for blind reviewing, please do not include author names and affiliations within the paper and avoid obvious self-references. Papers must represent new work that has not been previously published (pre-prints posted online on servers such as arXiv do not count as published papers, and thus are allowed to be submitted; we do not require a 1-month anonymity period for previous submissions on arXiv). Authors submitting a similar paper to another conference or workshop must specify this at submission time; if the paper is accepted to multiple venues, the author must choose which one to present at.
Papers must be submitted to the following website by 11:59 pm Anywhere on Earth (UTC–12), 1 July, 2021. Choose the track of "Workshop - Patent and Scientific Literature Translation" when creating new submission.
